• Flash memory mp3 players, like the Apple iPod, are the smallest type of mp3 players around. They are also the lightest. The largest capacity available for flash memory players to date is six gigabytes, which translates to approximately 190 hours of music or some 3,000 songs, more or less. • Hard drive mp3 players are bulky gadgets that allow for storage of as much as 60 gigabytes. They also have some other built-in features to make up for the fact that they are not as portable as the other types of mp3 players. However, the sheer size of the storage available alone can make a real audiophile drool. • MP3 CD players are just like the old-fashioned CD players. However, instead of being limited to CDs, you can use these units to enjoy your mp3s that were burned to a CDR or CDRW. A typical CDR or CDRW have a capacity of 700 megabytes, which translates to some ten hours of listening pleasure. When choosing an mp3 player, consider the size of the storage that you will need. If you do not really need that much space, then look for models with smaller storage capacities. They usually are much cheaper. If you crave the space, then by all means, indulge. Another thing you may want to think about when choosing an mp3 player is for what will you be using it? If you are thinking of bringing your mp3 along with you when you are jogging or working out at the gym, you should go for the flash memory type of mp3 player because they are smaller, lighter and oftentimes shock-resistant and waterproof. They will be able to perform well under the strain of being shaken and jostled about, unlike the sensitive hard drive mp3 player that suffers when it is being moved. When you are choosing an mp3 player, also make sure that the bundle you are purchasing comes with high quality earphones. Great earphones will help you maximize your listening pleasure. Also be certain that your package has the appropriate software. When we speak of appropriate software, we mean the mp3 ripper/encoder and the file organizer. What a nightmare it would be if you have something like a music library of 5,000 tracks stored in your mp3 player and no organizer to make sense of your library.
